PC Monks tells everyone that there's an unexploded WWII bomb in the Square. However, she first has to break up Phil and Billy. PC Monks tells Dot she's not allowed to smoke, since the bomb was discovered during gas main works. Those who are in the pub start to worry about their families at home and elsewhere, but are told to stay put because the police will spread the word. Peggy and Frank use the full pub to their advantage by announcing their plans to move to Portugal. Lisa and Phil bicker about her carelessness in getting pregnant, as she was the one supposedly taking precautions. She claims "accident". Phil opines that it seems very convenient. Lisa goes to the ladies' and Jamie follows her!

Dot reminisces about the war and Reg Cox being an air raid warden. Dot and Jim do some war songs. Finally, they get the all clear and are let out. Dot suddenly realises that it’s 15 years to the day Reg Cox was killed, and Pauline remarks that she’s probably right, and it was her Arthur that found him. Peggy tells Mark he's reminded her where her home is, and now decides that she doesn't want to move to Portugal after all. They tell Dan, and Frank adds nastily that they'll get Dan out. Dan says no chance, and Frank replies, "Then it's war."

Peggy and Dan vie for supremacy at the Vic. Phil gives Lisa an impossible choice. Roy must confess all to Frank when he finds no escape.

Steve hides his drug problem from Beppe but Billy is on to him. Phil refuses to let Roy back out of their deal as he tries desperately to sell the dodgy cars. Ian discovers Laura's secret and Peggy's suspicions about Lisa run rampant.

Billy discovers Steve's problem. Beppe is furious when Steve misses the meeting with the VAT man. Lisa and Phil both receive visits from a concerned and adamant Peggy.

Ian has a proposition for his auntie. Billy decides to gain the upper-hand with Steve but causes some strife in the Vic. Rose makes her feelings well-known to all.

Natalie decides that the dating agency has had its day and Barry tries to lift her spirits with a brilliant idea to save money. When Roy receives bad news from his pension company he worries about his future but Phil has a proposition for him.

Ian's bank manager comes to dinner to discuss a loan but the evening goes anything but smoothly. Sonia is devastated to learn that Enrico has another girlfriend and turns to a close friend for comfort but gets a bit more than expected! Roy finds a dodgy deal appealing.

Dan starts to feel the heat in the Vic, but discovers some useful information from Janine. Ricky is reeling from his recent trip. Beppe furious at his mother's behaviour, confronts Rosa about the cheque. Peggy goes to the hospital to discuss her surgery and Billy plays games with Steve.

Things go from bad to worse for Ricky, with disastrous consequences for all. Roy finds his dodgy stock down a few cars and Melanie wins free fish and chips at Ian's in the prize draw.

Miserable Ricky heads East in an emotional two-hander with Phil. After losing his wife, son, and finally his marbles Ricky says an emotional farewell to the Square.

There is a shock in store for Mel when she attempts to make amends with Dan. Gianni is left reeling after feeling the full force of Jackie's wrath. Furious at Dan, Phil takes his mood out on Lisa but Peggy may have the final solution to their problems.

Phil and Roy are amazed by Peggy's plan to get rid of Dan once and for all after a police visit gives her an idea. Lisa has warning pains and Jamie delivers a warning to Janine.

Phil and Lisa have to deal with some shocking news. Mel and Dan are forced to confront their feelings for each other.

Dan gets a postcard from Phil in Cornwall telling him to be out of the house by the time he gets back - in a week. Mel tells Jamie that Phil told her to clear all the baby things out of the house. Dan kisses Teresa at her stall and offers to buy her a drink later, and Melanie sees the kiss. He sees Melanie walk off. Melanie tells him to be careful with Peggy and Dan says if he was going to make trouble he'd just take his stuff upstairs right now - after all he does own half the place.

Steven's mates laugh at him in his new uniform. He looks miserable, but Ian tells him he'll be embarrassed about his background soon. Sandra approaches Ian and tells him that she heard he was in the market for an experienced PA and asks if he would like to meet her at 12:30pm in the café. Ian agrees, stunned. Natalie asks if she realises what she's getting into. Sandra says she wants a job here to be with Joe and Beppe, and says how she had a wonderful day yesterday with Beppe. Natalie is pleased for Sandra.

Irene keeps trying to get hold of Auntie Maureen, and Terry is furious. Jamie has passed his driving theory test and thanks Sonia for helping him revise. Sonia is miserable because she hasn't heard Robbie or Jim mention her 15th birthday next week. Jim pumps Pauline for information about Charlie and Nick, so as "not to upset Dot". Pauline later tells Dot he seemed quite genuine about wanting to "understand" her better.

Frank calls to say he's coming back and Janine blames Peggy for not looking for Ricky. Peggy asks Janine why she's been moping around all weekend and not gone out. Janine asks her when she cared. Dan answers the phone and the person hangs up, and Peggy says he's not allowed to answer the phone in case it’s Ricky. In return, Dan tells Peggy that the rumours are all about her and Frank's marital problems, and her story about his family problems isn't being believed.

Sonia thanks Jamie for a great night out and he has to drive the limo home and reminds Robbie to say nothing about the limo. However, when they arrive home, Jim asks what time they call this, and sees Phil's limo! Jim asks Sonia what's it worth to keep quiet about the limo. The next day, Phil finds dog hair on the seat and sacks Mick. Sonia and Jamie overhear the conversation and say they'll have to own up. Jamie feels even more guilty when Phil gives him £20 to clean the limo for him.

Frank is furious and says, "am I expected to live here with you sleeping on the sofa?" Dan grins and says he's sleeping in Ricky's old room and says to Peggy, "You haven't told him have you? - it looks like someone has some explaining to do." Frank can't believe it was 3 weeks ago that Ricky left and Peggy didn't tell him. Peggy tells him about the car ringing scam to raise the cash. She tells him that Phil was the last person to see Ricky. Frank is furious and goes to see Phil.

Frank tells Dan he's bagged up his stuff and it's at the bottom of the stairs. Roy and Phil are moving the cars around the Square and Frank has arranged a reliable buyer. Frank is pleased and smug, saying that by this evening they will have enough money to buy Dan out. Peggy tells Frank about her breast reconstruction surgery. Frank says he's sorry if he found it difficult to adapt to her state, but Peggy says she's not doing it for him, in fact it's because she wants her cleavage back. She says it'll be in a couple of weeks time if she goes private.

Dan tells Peggy that he heard someone calling the police about the car lot. Peggy tells Dan that Roy has his mobile switched off and she hasn't got the keys. They go to get the spare keys from Pat, who refuses to let them take the keys without an explanation, and taking her with them. Meanwhile, Frank's mate Johnny turns up and handcuffs his briefcase full of cash to his hand as he follows Frank and Roy. Peggy hands some keys to Dan and tells him to drive the car to a parking space. Dan says he has been drinking and can't drive. Pat also refuses, and Peggy asks if she wants her husband to go to prison too. Pat asks what's going on and Peggy says, "Do you want me to tell you now or after we've been arrested?" Pat reluctantly drives the cars. They move the cars around, and Peggy tells Dan that if the police don't show, she'll have him. Dan grins at the chaos he's caused.

Pat tells Natalie she's fallen out with Roy but asks Natalie not to tell Barry. She phones someone in Yellow Pages and goes out very early. Meanwhile Frank praises Peggy for "playing a blinder". Roy gets up in the Vic and Peggy says it's not her fault it's all gone sour for him - she had to tell Pat. Frank is curious that Dan supposedly tipped them off - Frank asks why Dan didn't just dump them in it. Frank goes to see Phil to investigate how the police knew. Frank discusses it with Phil and says only four people knew about the deal as far as he knows.

Roy is sleeping rough in the portacabin as Pat won't let him back home. Barry wants to interfere and Natalie suggests he let Pat and Roy sort it out themselves. Frank gets Ricky's answerphone message and checks the number he dialled from but it was withheld. Janine comes home after her exams saying that the school was useless and didn't teach her half of what was on the paper.

Beppe is still on the floor and he looks as though he is in trouble. Billy phones for an ambulance. Roy sees Pat leaving from her chat with Peggy but when he tries to follow her she tells him, in no uncertain terms and in front of everybody, that their marriage is over! Maureen waits for Jim. Jim sits at the back of the pub with his pint. He twists Dot's arm to join him on the stairs. They are having a great time together when Maureen spots them and comes charging around the back. To get rid of her once and for all Jim kisses Dot. Dot slaps Jim. Beppe's heart stops and the hospital staff try to revive him.

Frank makes Peggy breakfast in bed. Roy patches up the bruises and cuts on his face. Barry asks Pat where Roy was last night, and has a go at her, asking when Pat's leaving, because Roy paid for the house. Frank visits Roy and tells him to come and stay with him. Roy declines and says he's just got the holiday tickets for him and Pat. Barry arrives and asks what happened to Roy's face, and if it's definitely over. Barry tells him to see a solicitor, and it's his house. Roy tells Barry he's selfish, stupid and ignorant. Terry arrives and tells Roy that he needs a bath and he can stay with them. Roy looks worried and asks if Maureen is there. Terry says they'll stick together - safety in numbers, and hands Roy a key. Pat sees Irene who says how sorry she is to hear about her and Roy. Maureen asks keenly, "You're definitely not having your husband back?" Maureen also tells them and Frank that Beppe took a drugs overdose.

Gianni has a huge bruise in his stomach. Rosa asks him what's up and why he wants to get out of working with Jackie at the restaurant. Gianni asks Steve if he's got hold of Billy yet, and asks Steve to come and get him as soon as he finds Billy. Teresa asks Jackie if everything's OK, and asks her to have a word with Gianni because he's really cut up about it, and do it soon because he's driving them mad. Jackie arrives at work and asks Gianni if he had a good weekend.

Frank is getting very jittery about Roy and he harasses Pat to find out what Roy's going to do but she ignores him. Frank tries to get Phil to help persuade Pat to persuade Roy. Terry buys a pub quiz book to learn all the answers to the questions, and also tells Robbie - but steering him to last year's book. Sonia laughs at Robbie and Jamie being the only ones on their team, trying to learn a whole book of questions by Thursday.

Roy asks about a room ad in Terry's newsagent's window. Frank moans to Phil about enjoying his freedom while he can. Roy sees Pat in the café, and she tells him if he's thinking of taking half the Square to prison with him - he's more selfish than she thought! Steve is frantically looking for some drugs, and phones up some people and gets phone numbers of drug dealers. Teresa tells Jackie that Gianni's crazy about her. Jackie asks Gianni for a chat later and he's pleased and agrees. Rosa tells Jackie that she and Gianni were meant for each other, but Jackie says she's no good for him. Rosa asks her to come round for the family meal. Sandra overhears and invites herself too. Gianni spills something on his shirt and Rosa makes him take his shirt off and she sees his bruises and fingernail marks, and asks him if he's been in a fight. She's horrified and he tells her Jackie has tried everything for her PMS. He says this is private, and asks her not to interfere.

Robbie thinks Wellard is lonely and wants to keep him by his side in the café. Nina disappears to visit her sick father. Terry finds a cockroach in a bag of sugar, and is frantic! Irene tells him to send it back, but he got it "off the back of a lorry" so he can't. They desperately try to remember if anyone has bought any of the batch, and remember that Jim did. In the meantime, Terry clears the shelves and takes the bags home and empties them all out on the kitchen table. The mountain of sugar contains not a single cockroach. Irene asks him what he's going to do with it all, and he says that he'll bag it up again, he has to get some money back on it!

Roy wakes up on the sofa. Sandra thanks Beppe for letting her stay. Teresa and Rosa discuss Gianni being hurt by Jackie and then a loud Australian blonde woman swans into the kitchen and introduces herself as Raylene and says she is with Gianni. She tells Rosa what a lovely family she has and Rosa asks her what she does - she's a tattooist and body piercer, with a couple of "intimate" tattoos! Gianni comes to breakfast and Rosa looks very disapproving. Gianni tries to get rid of her, but she makes herself at home. Dan sees Melanie in the Square and she has a go at him about lying and being "everybody's best friend". He asks her out and she says she's busy.

Jim throws away everything from Mark's stall, saying they could all be infected! Robbie says he hasn't got AIDS, he's only HIV+. Jim stands in the market saying Mark has a disease and you can't buy food off him. He buys a ham roll in the Vic and takes the tomato and lettuce out. Dan says he made it himself - and it's fresh from Mark's stall. Jim says that's why - he's got the AIDS disease. Dan says you can't catch it like that. Nicky wants to borrow a new top from Sonia for her maths lesson, and asks Sonia to help her with her make-up. Her tutor is slightly miffed that she doesn't concentrate at all for the whole lesson.

Lisa is in turmoil. Peggy returns to find Pat working in the Vic. There's bad news for Robbie when Ian finds Wellard behind the counter in the café! Natalie receives a surprise job interview.

Sandra has a new hairstyle. Dan asks Phil to swap rooms with Jamie, saying his is very small. Phil agrees and gets Jamie round to the Arches and gives him a clapped out old mini as a gift now he's passed his test. It gets as far as the Square and conks out. Pauline is worried about the dinner party she's been invited to with Jeff. She wonders what to wear, and what to say. Mark hears about Jeff tidying up the allotment. Mark moans to Pauline about Jeff and she says Mark hasn't been up there for a while, and it was a mess. Mark whinges that he thought she wanted it to be kept in the family.

Dan moans to Jamie about his boxes in Dan's room. He kicks around Jamie's stereo and treads on it and breaks it. Lisa finds it and notices Dan doesn't look surprised. She has a go and Dan retaliates that she's making Phil's life miserable - she's always been second best to Kathy - and she put him back on the bottle and then couldn't even manage to keep the baby! Lisa caves in. Jeff buys flowers for Pauline and turns up at her house. She invites him in and he starts by saying he's so sorry. Pauline says she's old-fashioned and couldn't consider "that sort of thing" outside marriage. Jeff says he understands and she has strong beliefs and he admires that.

Lisa asks Phil what he's going to do to Dan, and urges him to "be sensible". Phil goes out and Dan asks Lisa where Phil is and if he's been avoiding her the last few days. Lisa asks if he's considered that it's him that Phil could be avoiding. Dan wheels a 48" TV screen into the Vic for the football. Frank says it's great, and Peggy is furious that Frank agreed to it, and didn't consult her. Frank says everybody wants to watch the game, if they didn't show it they might as well stay closed. Jim asks Dot out to the pictures that evening. Then he starts working and sees the big screen and asks when the game is. Barry has reserved his seat in prime position, and tells Jim it's tonight. Jim slaps his forehead and regrets asking Dot out. He cries off, pretending he has a stomach bug. Dot says that Pat did express an interest.

Lisa has some home truths for Melanie. Natalie hands in her notice at the café. Robbie seeks revenge against Frank. Dot teaches Jim a lesson.

Melanie arrives to ask Lisa to tell Phil not to do anything - he's a thug. Lisa asks why Melanie hasn't told Dan yet if she thinks that, and she's scared of what Dan would do to her. Melanie goes to see Phil and asks him to leave Dan alone, and she asks Phil why as he hasn't done anything yet. Phil says he doesn't intend to lay a finger on him, but if she warns Dan he may not have a choice. Lisa arrives and asks Phil what two heavies are doing there and Phil says he won't tell her - he obviously can't trust her as she told Melanie. They go round to Phil's and clear out Dan's room. Jamie is thrilled.

Robbie hangs around in dark glasses hiding behind a paper and whispers to Jamie that they need his end of the job. Jamie says he's trying but he has the hardest part. Robbie begs Barry to borrow two videos without paying, and Barry agrees miserably, saying he won't see Natalie for 6 weeks. Janine tells Terry that she may quit and he offers her 50p an hour more. She runs to Ian to say that Terry is offering 80p an hour more, and Ian offers her an extra £1 an hour. She runs off cheerfully.

Ian is training Janine, who keeps on about him getting her an assistant, and refuses to wipe tables as her assistant will do it. Robbie, Asif and Martin discuss the robbery and Janine tells them to leave if they've finished their drinks. Ian smiles approvingly. Jim asks Frank if he can have Dan's job! Melanie tells Steve how afraid she is, and Steve reassures her that he won't let anything happen to her. Steve tells Melanie that he went to Cornwall and Jackie helped him make a few decisions and the last 18 months is now history - it wasn't all his fault.

Sonia tells Jim that Robbie and his friends disappeared last night and she thinks they went to a party. In the Square, Mark, who thinks Jamie’s staying at Robbie’s, tells Jim to tell Jamie to get his car shifted from the middle of the Square. Frank finds the would-be robbers! The four come up with an excuse that they got locked in the toilets, and didn’t want to wake anyone up. Frank and Peggy notice they’ve been in the peanuts, so they say they got hungry. They only just believe them, but then Janine sees a stash of beer in Jamie’s car, and tells Frank and Peggy. Peggy calls the café to tell Jim about Robbie and gets Mark there to collect Martin. Peggy tells Jamie the "first rule" is "not on your own doorstep." Peggy says they could call the police. Mark objects that Martin has been in trouble before and might not get away with it. They decide on "community service". They are sent to clean the toilets, and they all have a go at Robbie.

Rosa tells Gianni to get Beppe and he asks Nicky exactly what happened. She says Rod touched her and snivels a bit, and Beppe says they must go to the police. Nicky refuses and Rosa says that they will do whatever Nicky wants and it will not be discussed outside the house. Gianni is keen on finding Rod's house and beating him up. Beppe tries again and says she has to report what happened, and trying to ignore it won't allow Nicky to get on with her life. Beppe asks Nicky if she wants Rod to pay for what he did. Nicky looks doubtful. Rosa answers the door to say she won't be coming to school today. Sonia tells Kim that it's obvious Nicky is skiving to avoid telling them she didn't get the snog she wanted from Rod. They get a policewoman to talk to Nicky and Beppe encourages her to talk so Rod won't be free to do it to some other little girl. Nicky agrees to talk. Two women interview her with Rosa present.

Laura encourages Ian to buy a new convertible. He takes Laura to see the new flats and she asks what he's doing with all this money. He suggests a European holiday and invites Laura along. She's amazed and thrilled and jumps at the chance. She offers advice about interior design and Ian shrugs and says it sounds OK. He gets a call to say there's an offer on one of the flats, and hugs Laura, which makes her look very awkward and guilty. Janine gossips to Asif that Jamie and Sonia were about to kiss and they tease Sonia. They tease Jamie, who says he's not going out with her, and they say of course, he doesn't want to be seen out with a fat girl! She's hiding around the corner eavesdropping.

Laura is in the kitchen preparing breakfast in bed for Ian. Ian spoils it when he comes downstairs and tells her he has to be at the building site by 8am and hasn’t got time. Steve gives his keys to Melanie, telling her that she’ll be safe in his house. He goes to the club, where he opens a letter he’s received. It contains a torn-up cheque from Barbara Owen. The di Marcos are shocked to see the story on the front page of the Walford Gazette - "Walford teacher on sex charge." For Gianni, honour is at stake and he wants revenge, but Beppe warns him not to take the law into his own hands. When Nicky comes in, she tells her mum that she can’t face school. Sonia joins Nicky in Giuseppe’s and suggests that she must have led Rod on. Nicky denies it and asks Sonia to leave. She can’t believe that her best friend has taken Rod’s side.

Gianni has been charged with GBH and drink driving, and a journalist arrives. Rod has three broken ribs and a fractured cheekbone and Beppe drives them away at top speed. Nicky asks Rosa how Rod is and Rosa asks her why she should care. Nicky says she wants to go to school to get back to normal. Sonia is out jogging and returns to find the policewoman there. She says she won't say anything against Nicky, but admits that she saw Nicky before she went to the lesson and she was wearing a brand new skirt. Sonia tells Nicky that the police came round, and Sonia tells her she shouldn't have worn that new skirt. She says the police were asking about her boyfriends, and Nicky says she hasn't got one. Sonia says we all know why that is - all she's been going on about for weeks is her teacher.

Billy grabs money from Jamie, then says he's "borrowing" it. Beppe tries to ask a friend in the police force to let Gianni off lightly, but with no luck. Phil asks Steve about Dan and Steve says it's sorted. Phil buys him a drink, saying they'll have to get him a sheriff's badge. Phil asks Steve if he wants to buy his share of the health club. Steve agrees to think about it. Steve asks Melanie for a drink, saying he has some vintage champagne but no one to share it with in the club. Melanie asks exactly what Steve said to Dan, and he tells her to come over and maybe she'll find out.

Billy takes some eggs that Jamie just bought, and Jamie objects, so Billy stamps on them. Lisa has a go at him for not bringing back the breakfast and Jamie storms out. She mentions it to Phil and says Billy may be giving him a hard time. Jamie goes to Robbie to ask for some money and Robbie offers him toast instead and Robbie asks why Jamie has such a problem with Billy and doesn't stand up to him. Jamie hints that Billy beats him up, and Robbie says he'll go round and sort him out. Phil goes to see Billy and tells him to keep away from Jamie. Phil asks Steve if he's thought any more about the health club, and Steve offers him £10,000, and Phil asks for £12,000. Billy goes to threaten Jamie for telling Phil, and smashes up a lot of crockery from his stall. Jamie is upset and Sonia comes to ask him if he's OK, and he pushes her away.

Mark goes to complain to Ian, who says he told Pauline to get financial advice, and thought she had. Mark tells him just to give her the £5,000 back. Ian is in a hurry and asks Laura where his keys are. She says, "on the bedside table, I mean your bedside table." Phil goes to see Jamie and says Billy's scared of him now. He shouts over to Billy and Jamie asks him not to tell anyone, as he's not proud of it. Steve chats Melanie up again and gives her a pair of earrings, saying he thought of her in Brighton this weekend. She says she'll put them with the others and that she is busy sorting out the house for Jeff's return.

Beppe tells Rosa that they'll have to tell the police. Nicky eavesdrops. They all have a long discussion, and Nicky goes to a payphone to phone the police. Their solicitor advises Rosa to drop the charges. Robbie asks Jamie how his date went and Jamie says it was OK.

Ian arrives in a very expensive new convertible, and tells Steve it's not every day that you get £10,000 for doing nothing. Steve says all he needs now is a tasty blonde next to him. Ian says he's happy as he is thanks, and Steve says he swapped his wife for £10,000 and he's happy?! Ian parks it and the alarm keeps going off. He shows it off to Laura, who says it's OK if you like that sort of thing and asks how he afforded it. Ian says HP - £35,000, but only £10,000 deposit. He phones up and moans to the garage about the alarm not working.

Sandra plans a surprise 30th birthday party for Beppe. Ethel has gone missing. Irene has gone off sex so Terry takes some advice from Jim. Nicky gets upset when someone chats her up at Beppe's party.

Rosa whinges to Irene about Nicky making such a fuss about the boy putting his arm around her in the club. Irene mentions that she took a sneak look at the Kama Sutra video and it was quite tastefully done. Ethel annoys Martin by telling him that it doesn't seem two minutes ago she was changing his napkin. She decides to make a birthday cake for Martin, but this involves instructing Dot exactly what to do, especially to be careful with the mixing bowl, as she was with Lou when she bought it. Jeff invites Irene to the Vic next Monday for a "surprise" party for Pauline. He tries to ask Ethel advice about Pauline, but Pauline arrives back.

Asif's mate reverses out at speed and drives off. Asif runs away. Everyone runs to have a look. Dot tells everyone it was completely empty as she was there earlier and it was all shut up. Terry staggers out with his shirt undone and doing up his trousers. Rosa wonders where Nicky was and Martin says she went home an hour ago for her tea. Rosa and the family all go home. Nicky wanders around the Square and phones Martin, but Pauline answers so she puts the phone down. Rosa gets hysterical, saying they don't know what's happened to Nicky. Robbie and Jamie say they can't believe Asif went through with it, but he got the wrong place. Sonia overhears the last part and asks what they mean. Jamie asks her what she's doing today and she says she's going out with Neil for a picnic. He moans to Lisa and she says he hasn't lost Sonia, he will have to try a bit harder.

Jeff writes a speech for Pauline's proposal. Melanie questions the wisdom of doing it in front of the whole Square. Martin is slow getting to breakfast, and Ashley unscrews the salt pot top and puts it down as Martin arrives, wearing a shirt that Pauline gave him for his birthday. Ashley smirks "nice shirt" as Martin sits down, shakes the salt pot and gets the whole lot over his breakfast. He accuses Ashley who acts innocent.

Jeff looks downcast and Mark says he tried to warn him. Steve says she's just playing hard to get. Melanie snaps at him. Jeff takes his bunch of flowers off to see Pauline. He goes to Pauline's house, and she says he showed her up in front of everyone. Pauline says it was a bolt from the blue - he should have said something. Jeff says he did it the way she specified, she made it clear that the only way their relationship would move on was through marriage, so he kept his distance, showed respect, did it her way. Pauline says she wants to stay as they are - as friends.

Ian can't wait to get out of bed with Laura, who thanks him for last night. Teresa refuses to go with Rosa, saying her stall is here. Rosa packs and Gianni hears he has to go to court about his drink driving charge next month. Beppe arrives and says he can't go because this is Joe's home. However, he does persuade Teresa to go anyway. Irene brings her some wind chimes as a souvenir. Rosa says she's never been happy here anyway, but that Irene must live her life. They all hug everyone and say goodbye.

Jamie does a huge spray can painting of a heart with 'Jamie & Sonia' on the wall in the market. When she opens the café, Janine phones the market inspector to report the vandalism. Sonia moans to Kim that Jamie hasn't been round to see her. Martin laughs at Jamie and says he should sort out that graffiti before someone sees it. Jamie says she's supposed to and Martin can't believe Jamie really fancies Sonia, as she's "not exactly Kate Moss." Robbie starts to clean off Jamie's paint and tells him that he will be in trouble if the market inspector sees it. Jamie whines that Sonia hasn't seen it yet. Mark opines that Jamie just has to ask her out. Jamie says he has but she says he's not serious. Robbie and Mark suggest flowers and chocolates, and he says that's no good. Mark suggests a meal out, or if that fails, club her on the head and drag her back to your cave!

Sandra decides they need somewhere bigger to live and looks at flats, although Beppe is reluctant about it. Steve tells Beppe he went to Phil's snooker hall on his night off - and maybe it wasn't a night off after all. Phil charges Steve £400 for a car service, and Steve says that seems a bit steep, but grins as he realises the reason. Steve then offers to buy Phil lunch. Barry buys a cheap little old banger for Natalie and tries to get Phil to service it free. Then he gets Jamie to paint it funny colours and Robbie to help him wrap ribbons all round it. Laura thinks it's a lovely idea.

Dot goes to wake Ethel up and thinks she's dead and screams for Pauline, then Ethel starts snoring. Dot tells Pauline to take care of Ethel while she's still here. She arrives back very early. Barry is waiting excitedly for Natalie and is thrilled about the old car. Pat tells Barry she's back. He rushes home with some flowers and champagne. Natalie tells Barry she's got something to show him - a brand new company car, just behind that old rust bucket.

Billy has moved house and has bought a new addition to the household - a goldfish to keep him company! Pauline is doing her best to please Ethel but she can’t seem to do anything right for her and tells Dot that she’s getting irritated by Ethel’s continual moaning. Beppe and Sandra are busy sorting out all their packing cases - Ian interrupts them to tell Sandra to deal with his post. He’s got demands f

Terry receives a cheque by registered mail. It’s the £50,000 insurance money for the First Til Last, made out in his name. Sandra is about to leave the house without saying goodbye. When she explains to Beppe that she feels responsible for sorting out Ian’s financial troubles, he advises her not to let the job get on top of her. He proposes they celebrate moving in with a bottle of wine and a takeaway in the evening.

Lisa has invited Steve and Melanie round for supper in a bid to encourage them to resolve their differences, but Phil advises her to cancel it. Beppe has slept on the sofa, and Sandra feels guilty at her outburst the previous night. When she tries to excuse it because of the pressure of work, Beppe replies that work has nothing to do with it. Dot is all dressed up for her visit to the hospice, and bumps in to Mark in the market. Dot is unable to hide the truth from him about Ethel, and admits to him that she’s dying.

While Dot’s fussing over her, Ethel reveals that she had a brain scan before coming to Walford and the cancer had spread. Ethel’s acceptance of the situation is frustrating Dot and she tries to get Ethel interested in alternative therapies. Ethel really has no interest in any of it. The nurse arrives and Ethel makes Dot promise not to mention anything about her request. Tension is high between Beppe and Sandra at the moment. Beppe’s trying to accept that Sandra doesn’t want another baby and Sandra now thinks Beppe is settling for second best. A stranger approaches Billy outside Beppe’s old flat. He’s trying to track down Beppe or Sandra but Billy is cagey. He tells him where they work and walks off.

As Ethel's condition worsens, Dot has big decisions to make about her friend's future. Jamie has a night out with Sonia.

The residents pull together to convene a celebration for Ethel's 85th birthday. Dot is erratic to make everything perfect for her. Ethel is becoming increasingly weaker when Dot catches her unable to keep hold of a tin. Preparations are under swing at the Vic for Ethel's birthday party. Ian is the host and is worked under his feet. Janine has gotten carried away with 'sampling' the alcohol.

Dot has not told anyone about Ethel's death and Pauline tries to get her involved in the funeral arrangements. Terry throws out all of Irene's things and lets himself go.

Worried about his friends, Jim tries to help both Terry and Dot with mixed results. Barry's diet continues to go badly as do Jamie's attempts to be alone with Sonia.

Pat and Frank are pushed together by their unsuspecting spouses. Terry has decided to make a fresh start. Dot receives some shocking news about Ethel's will.

There's a sombre mood on the day of Ethel's funeral. A new family move onto Albert Square. A white van pulled up outside Number 23. Charlie Slater and his daughters arrive with nana Mo and Lynne's boyfriend Garry. They realise they have the wrong keys! Robbie appears, keen to assess the Square's latest talent. Ian orders them to make room for the funeral cortege. Little Mo is aghast at the bad omen.

Pat and Roy discuss the arrival of Mo. Lynne applies for the job at the café. Peggy is concerned about Frank. Pat gets her own back on Mo which makes Frank proud.

Dot's struggle with her conscience reaches crisis point. Zoe pursues Jamie but Sonia soon puts a stop to her. Frank makes a momentous decision. Phil offers Lynne the job in the café, despite lan's reservations.

Dot confesses to Pauline about assisting Ethel's suicide. Frank plots to get Roy out of the way. Ian faces the wrath of the Slaters and loses. Charlie and Mark agree that Zoe can work on his stall to pay for the damage.

Sparks fly when Laura falls out with Ian and into the arms of someone else's boyfriend. Meanwhile the Slater girls are the stars of the Queen Vic's karaoke night.

She ends up losing her patience with him, and when he accidentally kicks his football out the door and into the Square, she is greeted by Jack whom she tells she may ring later. Barry and Natalie return from their romantic evening out, and all Barry can pester about is the lack of food he was given after Natalie mistakenly ordered him a fitness cuisine.

Jack wants for an answer from Sandra about going away with him. Little Mo arrives to stay at the Slaters. Kevin chains himself to the Slaters gate to get Kat's attention. Laura turns down a new job. Frank and Pat continue their affair.

It's a year today since Charlie's wife died and the whole Slater family are thinking of what she meant to them. Peggy buys Frank a new mobile phone so they can be in constant touch. Barry returns from the hospital - he really did have high blood pressure. Mo tells Pat she knows about Frank. The debt collector frightens Laura at Ian's house.

Beppe is shocked to discover what Sandra is scheming. Pat tells Frank that she is leaving.

After visiting the clinic, Mark makes life-changing decisions. Sonia has bought tickets for a gig for Robbie for his birthday.

Tensions between Pat and Mo finally come to a head. Robbie gets the birthday present of his dreams.

Sonia gets a visit from a social worker and tells her to take the baby away. Peggy invites Roy and Pat out for dinner. Ian has everyone chasing him for payment. Frank offers Little Mo a job as a cleaner. Ian goes home drunk and tries to bed Laura.

Frank and Pat say their goodbyes and prepare to make a final journey out of the Square. Meanwhile, Jamie decides to visit Sonia in hospital.

A furious Peggy creates a relieved Frank when his fears are put to rest as Peggy starts ranting and raging about a mock-up at the cash and carry with the account card. However, the letter is still nowhere to be found, so a panicked Frank begins interrogating the suspected suspects. Barry discovers Pat’s runaway suitcase containing lavish lingerie as he’s rooting through the cupboard under the stairs. She quickly jumps to defend her corner and excuses that they're a surprise for Roy.

Janine mopes about the fact that Frank has left her. Robbie asks Mo to get a cot for the baby coming home. Roy tells Peggy that he completely trusted Pat. Janine finds Frank's mobile in the bin and starts shouting at Peggy, blaming her that he left. Peggy reacts saying that he has lumbered her with Janine. Janine says she does not blame him for leaving. Peggy slaps her in anger. Peggy has packed Janine's suitcase and is throwing her out. Janine tries to backtrack but it's too late. Peggy says Janine only ever cares about herself - just like her father. She throws her out and sits back onto the stairs and sobs.

Phil's anger erupts as Peggy fails to cope. He smashes up Frank's portacabin with a baseball bat.

Pat comes out of hiding as Roy plans his future. Ashley causes trouble and gives unwelcome news to Dot. Ian has the smile wiped from his face by Danny.

Nick returns to Albert Square. Roy shows a new side to his character as he begins to put his life in order. Martin is worried about Sonia. Ian is hopeful about business.

An awkward encounter at work makes Peggy face some uncomfortable truths, and Phil turns up the heat.

Beppe is on tenterhooks as he awaits the outcome of the custody case. Eddie has an unwelcome blast from the past. Garry's persistence with Kat has dire consequences.

Kat is increasingly isolated as she tries to tell the truth about Garry. Time is running out for Ian as bankruptcy looms. Sonia thinks more about having Chloe adopted.

Melanie is suspicious as Steve and Kat get friendly. Mark is back in the Square and finds some unwelcome house guests.

Ian has just an hour to raise £13,000 before his meeting, and is forced to turn to the most unlikely of people.

A trip ends in disaster for Robbie, Kerry, Zoe and Jamie. Nick sees Eddie reprimanding Ashley and has words with him. Sonia is having Chloe adopted and Robbie does not know.

Sonia is confronted by Jamie on his return from Southend. Jim and Phil are not impressed when Melanie tells them about the charity Christmas pin up calendar.

Pauline returns from holiday to find an unwelcome guest. Eddie is in trouble when money vanishes from Mark's stall.

As Ian struggles to cope, the Queen Vic calendar is stirring up more problems for Melanie.

Dot finds the importance of her day in court overwhelming and Mark is unaware of the course of action that she is planning to take. Nick and Ashley make mischief of their own and Mark is forced to confront an old enemy.

Dot spends an uncomfortable first night in prison. Sonia returns to school to face the gossips.

Nick embarks on a new business venture. Eddie tells Pauline the truth about his past and later she finds the cashbox. Billy and Kat take Little Mo shopping for Trevor's homecoming, but he disapproves and beats her up.

The creditors' meeting is even worse than Ian had anticipated. Nick has a gift that Martin wasn't expecting.

Nick is back supplying drugs around the Square including Martin. Phil receives a package from Kathy.

Phil discovers that Lisa burnt the letter from Kathy. He warns her that nothing comes between him and his son. Steve's furious to discover Beppe is selling his share of E20 to Phil. Peggy resumes her place behind the bar at the Queen Vic. Natalie tries to convince Roy and Barry to have Pat over for Christmas dinner. Ashley asks Martin who his drug supplier is.

Peggy arrives downstairs early. Everyone is a bit surprised to see her, but she insists that she's just fine. She plans to open the Vic for an hour on Christmas Day, offering free drinks for everyone. Lisa is distraught at the breakfast table. It turns out that Phil is planning to head over to South Africa for Christmas - he is determined to see his son. Jamie tells him he'll miss him.

Phil eyes Melanie from his bedroom window contagiously as she makes her way to the Vic. Peggy's in high spirits and looking forward to having all of the Mitchell clan over for Christmas dinner plus Melanie. Phil tells Peggy that Sam won't be able to make the dinner. Lynne tells Zoe that she thinks Garry has gotten her an engagement ring. Lisa lies to Sonia that Jamie isn't around on his behalf when she comes to give him a Christmas present.

Melanie is in Phil's bed horrified at what she's done. Lisa bangs on the front door. Jamie pulls up on Bridge Street and eyes Number 45. The Cottons turn up at the Fowlers' and Nick's worried to find the Evans' there while Dot handles their presents. Lisa storms into the house as Phil answers the door. She's confused to find Melanie's dress in the kitchen. Phil tells her he borrowed Melanie one of hers. Phil manhandles her into the living room. Lisa rips into Phil about his faults. She tells him that Peggy's on tranquillisers and that he does not care. She continues to dig at him and he warns her to stop. As Lisa carries on, Phil whacks her across the face. She's left shell-shocked but undefeated. In retaliation, Phil throws her out of the house.

Trevor looks for Little Mo. Jim has a go at Sonia about Martin being the father of her baby. Jim discusses Jamie's revelation with Pauline and Mark. Mark questions whether Sonia is really sure Martin is the father. Jim defends Sonia but Pauline doesn't believe a word of it. Melanie tells Phil that yesterday was a mistake and she regrets it. Phil does not believe her. In defence of her son, an angry Pauline marches over to the Jacksons and slaps Sonia across the face. She tells her to keep her filthy lies to herself!

Pat secretly helps Natalie with their party. Martin gets drugs from Nick, then he and Asif get drunk. Ashley joins them. Nick finds drugs on Ashley.

Peggy finds New Year's Eve is not worth celebrating. Mo has a shock when the youngsters throw a party at the Slaters'. Nick's angry with Martin for giving drugs to his son. Barry and Natalie arrange their anniversary party.
